SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 96

COMMENDATIONS. Commends The Interfraternity Council at Louisiana State University
for its campus-wide achievements.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend The Interfraternity Council at Louisiana State University for its campus-wide2
achievements.3
WHEREAS, The Interfraternity Council is the governing body of twenty fraternities4
on the Louisiana State University campus, and acts as the functional liaison between5
fraternities and the university, as well as all other groups; and6
WHEREAS, the council promotes unity among the individual chapters, provides7
positive relationship between the Greek community and the university, and ensures that all8
rules, policies, and regulations passed by the council are followed by the fraternities; and9
WHEREAS, the member fraternities aspire to achieve excellence in brotherhood,10
leadership, philanthropy, and scholarship; and11
WHEREAS, membership within a fraternity promotes a brotherhood that lasts a12
lifetime; and13
WHEREAS, fraternity life at Louisiana State University has had strong traditions for14
over one hundred forty-five years; and15
WHEREAS, more than one thousand four hundred men who attend Louisiana State16
University are members of a fraternity affiliated with the university; and17
WHEREAS, men affiliated with fraternities on the Louisiana State University18 SR NO. 96

campus believe that academic strength is the most important attribute of the Greek1
community; and2
WHEREAS, for more than twenty years, the grade point average among all3
fraternities has been higher than all male students enrolled at the university; and4
WHEREAS, in the 2010-2011 school year, fraternity members volunteered over five5
thousand hours of service within the community; and6
WHEREAS, in the same school year, The Interfraternity Council chapters raised over7
one thousand dollars for philanthropic causes; and8
WHEREAS, fraternity life provides access to a community that fosters social9
interaction between all members of the Greek community, and also provides fraternity10
members with the opportunity to excel in sporting events through their participation in11
intramural competition; and12
WHEREAS, notable members of Louisiana State University fraternities include13
Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne; Bob Petit, member of the National Basketball14
Association Hall of Fame; and Pete Maravich, Louisiana State University basketball15
standout; and16
WHEREAS, The Interfraternity Council promotes the best interests of Louisiana17
State University, and interfraternity relations in general, and inspires idealism and tolerance18
in all university activities.19
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana20
does hereby commend The Interfraternity Council at Louisiana State University for its21
campus-wide achievements and accomplishments.22
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to The23
Interfraternity Council.24
