SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 96
BY SENATOR ALARIO 
A RESOLUTION
To commend The Interfraternity Council at Louisiana State University for its campus-wide
achievements.
WHEREAS, The Interfraternity Council is the governing body of twenty fraternities
on the Louisiana State University campus, and acts as the functional liaison between
fraternities and the university, as well as all other groups; and
WHEREAS, the council promotes unity among the individual chapters, provides
positive relationship between the Greek community and the university, and ensures that all
rules, policies, and regulations passed by the council are followed by the fraternities; and
WHEREAS, the member fraternities aspire to achieve excellence in brotherhood,
leadership, philanthropy, and scholarship; and
 WHEREAS, membership within a fraternity promotes a brotherhood that lasts a
lifetime; and
WHEREAS, fraternity life at Louisiana State University has had strong traditions for
over one hundred forty-five years; and
WHEREAS, more than one thousand four hundred men who attend Louisiana State
University are members of a fraternity affiliated with the university; and
WHEREAS, men affiliated with fraternities on the Louisiana State University
campus believe that academic strength is the most important attribute of the Greek
community; and
WHEREAS, for more than twenty years, the grade point average among all
fraternities has been higher than all male students enrolled at the university; and
WHEREAS, in the 2010-2011 school year, fraternity members volunteered over five
thousand hours of service within the community; and SR NO. 96	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, in the same school year, The Interfraternity Council chapters raised over
one hundred thousand dollars for philanthropic causes; and
WHEREAS, fraternity life provides access to a community that fosters social
interaction between all members of the Greek community, and also provides fraternity
members with the opportunity to excel in sporting events through their participation in
intramural competition; and
WHEREAS, notable members of Louisiana State University fraternities include
Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne; Bob Petit, member of the National Basketball
Association Hall of Fame; and Pete Maravich, Louisiana State University basketball
standout; and
WHEREAS, The Interfraternity Council promotes the best interests of Louisiana
State University, and interfraternity relations in general, and inspires idealism and tolerance
in all university activities.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend The Interfraternity Council at Louisiana State University for its
campus-wide achievements and accomplishments.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to The
Interfraternity Council.
