Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 98 BY SENATOR WALSWORTH A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate Robert William Blackwell for signing a free agent contract with the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League. WHEREAS, Robert William Blackwell has set himself among the stars of Louisiana football; and WHEREAS, born on January 24, 1989, in Shreveport to Jimmy and Sara Blackwell, Will showed his athletic prowess and competitive spirit from an early age; and WHEREAS, he attended West Monroe High School where he played his sophomore through senior years and was named twice to the Class 5A All-State First Team; and WHEREAS, during his high school career he was rated in 2007 among the best defensive lineman in the nation by Rivals.com, was a member of the Baton Rouge Super Dozen, New Orleans Times Picayune's Blue-Chip List, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super Southern 100; and WHEREAS, upon graduating from high school, he chose to attend Louisiana State University and was a star player for the champion Fighting Tigers, playing in forty-two games with sixteen starts and earning a spot on first team All-American honors in the 2011 season for helping to lead LSU to a 13-1 overall mark and a number two final ranking, and was voted one of five permanent team captains for that season; and WHEREAS, his many successes and outstanding football career have been made all the better by the love and support of his family and friends, especially his lovely fiancée, Laura Lenox Cummings, whom he will marry on Sunday, May 6 th , in Monroe; and WHEREAS, an indomitable talent, Will Blackwell continues his football career as a professional player after signing a free agent contract with the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League. SR NO. 98 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Robert William Blackwell for his distinguished career as a talented offensive lineman, and for his recent move into professional football playing for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League, and does hereby wish him many victories on the field and many successes in his future endeavors.
