Prefiled pursuant to Article III, Section 2(A)(4)(b)(i) of the Constitution of Louisiana.
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 47:463.160 and 463.161, relative to motor vehicle special prestige license2
plates; to provide for creation, issuance, and design of such license plates; to provide3
relative to the fee and distribution of fees for such plates; to authorize the4
promulgation of rules and regulations relative to the creation and implementation of5
a special prestige license plate; and to provide for related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1.  R.S. 47:463.160 and 463.161 are hereby enacted to read as follows:8
§463.160.  Special prestige license plates; "I'm Cajun"9
A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall10
establish a special prestige motor vehicle license plate to be known as the "I'm11
Cajun" plate, provided there is a minimum of one thousand applicants for such plate.12
These license plates shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup trucks,13
recreational vehicles, and vans.14
B. The plate shall be of a color and design selected by the Council for the15
Development of French in Louisiana, provided that it is in compliance with R.S.16
47:463(A)(3). The design shall include the phrase "I'm Cajun...and proud" and shall17
also include a prominent image celebrating the Cajun culture.18
C. The prestige license plate shall be issued, upon application, to any citizen19
of Louisiana in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.20
D. The department shall collect an annual royalty fee of fifteen dollars for21
this special prestige license plate, which shall be disbursed in accordance with22
Subsection E of this Section.  This fee shall be in addition to the standard motor23 ENROLLEDHB NO. 147

vehicle license tax imposed by Article VII, Section 5 of the Constitution of1
Louisiana, and a handling fee of three dollars and fifty cents to be retained by the2
department to offset a portion of administrative costs.3
E. The monies received from the additional fifteen dollar fee shall be4
disbursed solely to fund scholarships to "La Fondation Louisiane for the Escadrille5
Louisiane" scholarship program of the Council for the Development of French in6
Louisiana.7
F. The secretary shall adopt rules and regulations as are necessary to8
implement the provisions of this Section.9
§463.161.  Special prestige license plates; "I'm Creole"10
A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall11
establish a special prestige motor vehicle license plate to be known as the "I'm12
