[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] Pylant HB No. 648 Abstract: Requires the State Bd. of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) to adopt rules and regulations that require all public high school students, beginning with those entering ninth grade in the fall of 2014, to successfully complete at least one course offered by a BESE-authorized online or virtual course provider as a prerequisite to graduation. Present law provides generally for the duties, functions, and responsibilities of the State Bd. of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE). Proposed law additionally requires BESE to develop and adopt rules and regulations in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act that require all public high school students, as a prerequisite to graduation, to successfully complete at least one course offered by an online or virtual course provider authorized by BESE pursuant to present law (the Course Choice Program). Proposed law implementation begins with students entering the ninth grade in the Fall of 2014. (Adds R.S. 17:7(33))
