HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 116
BY REPRESENTATIVES NANCY LANDRY, STUART BISHOP, AND ROBIDEAUX
AND SENATOR CORTEZ
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the St. Thomas More High School girls' volleyball team upon winning the
Division II state championship.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the St. Thomas More High School girls'
volleyball team upon winning the 2012 Division II state championship and to congratulate
its players on an outstanding season; and
WHEREAS, the St. Thomas More High School girls' volleyball team completed a
sensational season with a record of 31-10; and
WHEREAS, the team entered the tournament as the top-seeded team and dominated
last season's reigning champions, Cabrini High School; and
WHEREAS, the team advanced to the championship game and was able to defeat
St. Martinville in three straight games; and
WHEREAS, senior Kali Calkins was named the game's Most Valuable Player for her
performance, which included ten kills, four aces, and thirteen digs and led the team to
victory; and
WHEREAS, juniors Jaime Landry, with eleven kills and two aces, and Emma
McKay, with thirty-nine assists, were also key players in the win against St. Martinville; and
WHEREAS, the amazing feats of the team could not have been achieved without the
guidance and skills of Coach Jessica Burke and all of the other individuals who have
contributed to the success of the school's volleyball program; and
WHEREAS, the team's outstanding season upholds the glorious tradition of the Lady
Cougars, and all St. Thomas More High School alumni and fans recognize the immense
pride and distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and state. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 116

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the St. Thomas More High School girls' volleyball team upon winning the 2012
District II state championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches,
and everyone involved with this fine volleyball program as they celebrate their exceptional
season and prepare for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Coach Jessica Burke.
