CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of U.S. Marine Sgt. Michael
Guillory of Pearl River
A RESOLUTION1
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana2
upon the death of United States Marine Sergeant Michael James Guillory, of Pearl3
River, Louisiana.4
WHEREAS, it is with profound sadness that the members of the House of5
Representatives have learned of the death of United States Marine Sergeant Michael James6
"Phat Boy" Guillory, who was killed in the service of his country on December 14, 2012, in7
Afghanistan; and8
WHEREAS, Michael James Guillory was born at Slidell Memorial Hospital on9
January 14, 1984, the youngest of three children born to Gina Manton Guillory and Michael10
John Guillory; and11
WHEREAS, Michael Guillory graduated from Pearl River High School in 2002 and12
joined the United States Marine Corps in 2003, with his first assignment as a combat13
engineer; and14
WHEREAS, rising in the ranks, Sergeant Guillory transferred to the elite15
reconnaissance community in 2007, where he served as a scout with 1st Recon Battalion;16
and17
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory moved to the United States Marine Corps Forces18
Special Operations Command in 2009 and was assigned to Camp Pendleton's 1st Marine19
Special Operations Battalion upon completion of the rigorous selection and training process20

WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory became a critical skills operator and was carrying out1
the duties of his assignment when his brief life came to an abrupt end in a tragic accident on2
a resupply mission; and3
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory leaves to mourn his passing his loving father and4
mother, his sisters, Jessica Guillory and United States Marine Sergeant Tiffany Guillory, and5
the nearly one thousand family members and friends who attended his final services, which6
culminated in a twenty-one gun salute by his fellow Marines in honor of his life; and7
WHEREAS, the sacrifices made by the great men and women who protect and8
defend the Constitution and these United States must always be acknowledged by those who9
are left behind to honor their memory; and10
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the House of Representatives records for11
posterity the extraordinary dedication and commitment to his country that Sergeant Guillory12
displayed in his life and in the military service.13
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the House of Representatives14
of the Legislature of Louisiana do hereby express their condolences and most heartfelt15
sorrow to the family of United States Marine Sergeant Michael James Guillory and do16
hereby record and acknowledge the unique and special contributions of Sergeant Guillory17
to the town of Pearl River, to the parish of St. Tammany, to the state of Louisiana, and to the18
United States of America.19
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted20
to Mr. and Mrs. Michael John Guillory.21
