A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana
upon the death of United States Marine Sergeant Michael James Guillory, of Pearl
River, Louisiana.
WHEREAS, it is with profound sadness that the members of the House of
Representatives have learned of the death of United States Marine Sergeant Michael James
"Phat Boy" Guillory, who was killed in the service of his country on December 14, 2012, in
Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, Michael James Guillory was born at Slidell Memorial Hospital on
January 14, 1984, the youngest of three children born to Gina Manton Guillory and Michael
John Guillory; and
WHEREAS, Michael Guillory graduated from Pearl River High School in 2002 and
joined the United States Marine Corps in 2003, with his first assignment as a combat
engineer; and
WHEREAS, rising in the ranks, Sergeant Guillory transferred to the elite
reconnaissance community in 2007, where he served as a scout with 1st Recon Battalion;

WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory moved to the United States Marine Corps Forces
Special Operations Command in 2009 and was assigned to Camp Pendleton's 1st Marine
Special Operations Battalion upon completion of the rigorous selection and training process
necessary for membership in this elite group; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory became a critical skills operator and was carrying out
the duties of his assignment when his brief life came to an abrupt end in a tragic accident on
a resupply mission; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory leaves to mourn his passing his loving father and
mother, his sisters, Jessica Guillory and United States Marine Sergeant Tiffany Guillory, and
the nearly one thousand family members and friends who attended his final services, which
culminated in a twenty-one gun salute by his fellow Marines in honor of his life; and
WHEREAS, the sacrifices made by the great men and women who protect and
defend the Constitution and these United States must always be acknowledged by those who
are left behind to honor their memory; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the House of Representatives records for
posterity the extraordinary dedication and commitment to his country that Sergeant Guillory
displayed in his life and in the military service.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the House of Representatives
of the Legislature of Louisiana do hereby express their condolences and most heartfelt
sorrow to the family of United States Marine Sergeant Michael James Guillory and do
hereby record and acknowledge the unique and special contributions of Sergeant Guillory
to the town of Pearl River, to the parish of St. Tammany, to the state of Louisiana, and to the
United States of America.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Mr. and Mrs. Michael John Guillory.
