ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 144 BY REPRESENTATIVES SMITH AND COX A RESOLUTION To commend the Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Inc., upon the celebration of its seventy-fifth anniversary. WHEREAS, Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, the auxiliary and adopted body of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, Louisiana Jurisdiction, was organized on January 12, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and it is appropriate to congratulate its members upon the historic occasion of its seventy-fifth anniversary; and WHEREAS, Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star was incorporated in accordance with the laws of Louisiana on December 4, 1954, and initially had only ten chapters; and WHEREAS, Esther Grand Chapter, now with more than one hundred forty-five chapters, seeks to provide young people with guidance, build their self-esteem and character, and serve as a recreational outlet for youth in the community; and WHEREAS, the Esther Grand Chapter annually contributes more than sixty thousand dollars to Camp Chicota, a youth camp in St. Landry Parish that is owned and operated by the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Louisiana and Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; and WHEREAS, the Esther Grand Chapter makes yearly donations to deserving charities during its Grand Session in Baton Rouge, recognizes the civic service and charitable accomplishments of its members, and awards scholarships to deserving students; and WHEREAS, the Esther Grand Chapter makes generous donations to the United Negro College Fund, the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the ENROLLEDHR NO. 144 Page 2 of 2 National Council of Negro Women, the Hurricane Disaster Relief Fund, and the Haitian Relief Fund; and WHEREAS, the Esther Grand Chapter participates in many civic activities including voter registration drives, after school tutoring, sponsorship of youth organizations, Toys for Tots, donations to food banks and school supply drives, and a multitude of senior citizen functions; and WHEREAS, members of the Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star are pillars of service to this state, and they merit the highest measure of commendation for seventy-five years of highly effective and productive service. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star upon the celebration of its seventy-fifth anniversary, does hereby record for posterity the countless acts of charity and generous contributions that this organization has made toward the betterment of the state of Louisiana, and does hereby extend to the members of this fine organization all the best wishes for many more years of compassionate, Christian, and charitable service.
