ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 46 BY REPRESENTATIVE LORUSSO A RESOLUTION To commend Brigadier General Joanne F. Sheridan, the Assistant Adjutant General–Army for the Louisiana National Guard and the first female general of the Louisiana National Guard, for her outstanding military accomplishments. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize Brigadier General Joanne F. Sheridan for her dedication to excellence in military service; and WHEREAS, Brigadier General Sheridan graduated from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, earning a bachelor of arts degree in sociology; she received her commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps in May of 1983; and WHEREAS, Brigadier General Sheridan began her military career on active duty, serving from February of 1984 through September of 1988; during this time, she was assigned to the 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Fort Polk, Louisiana, where she served as the Assistant G-1, Plans and Policies; she served in various personnel and administrative positions during her three-year tour, and she was next transferred to Jackson, Mississippi, where she served as the Assistant Operations Officer in the 5th United States Army Recruiting Battalion; and WHEREAS, in October of 1988, Brigadier General Sheridan began her long and distinguished career with the Louisiana National Guard, serving as the Assistant S-1, Headquarters Detachment Commander, and S-1 in the 61st Troop Command as well as the Education Services Officer, Deputy Director of Military Personnel, Deputy Director of Information Management, Deputy Chief of Staff, Director of Personnel-J1, and Vice Chief of the Joint Staff in the Joint Force Headquarters–Louisiana; and as Commander of the 415th Military Intelligence Battalion and the 199th Regiment (Regional Training Institute); and WHEREAS, Brigadier General Sheridan serves with distinction as the Assistant Adjutant General–Army for the Louisiana National Guard and the principal military advisor ENROLLEDHR NO. 46 Page 2 of 2 to the Adjutant General of the State of Louisiana, providing integral assistance in the deployment and coordination of programs, policies, and plans for the Louisiana Army National Guard; and WHEREAS, in 2008, Brigadier General Sheridan deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Director of the Project Management Office on the Task Force to Improve Business and Stability Operations in Iraq; and WHEREAS, Brigadier General Sheridan, who chairs the National Guard Association of Louisiana, made history in July of 2012 upon her promotion to brigadier general, making her the Louisiana National Guard's first female general; and WHEREAS, Brigadier General Sheridan merits a special measure of commendation for the pride and honor she brings to her state and nation. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Brigadier General Joanne F. Sheridan, the Assistant Adjutant General–Army for the Louisiana National Guard and the first female general of the Louisiana National Guard, for her outstanding military accomplishments and her committed service to the state of Louisiana and the United States and does hereby extend to her every good wish for continued success and happiness in the future.
