AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 11:1821(B), relative to the Municipal Employees' Retirement2
System; to provide for membership of the board of trustees; to provide for an3
effective date; and to provide for related matters.4
Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 11:1821(B) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7
ยง1821. Board of trustees; membership; term of office; oath of office; compensation;8
voting power; vacancies9

B. The board shall consist of nine eleven trustees, six of whom shall be active11
and contributing members of the system with at least ten years of creditable service,12
elected by the members of this system in accordance with the election rules13
prescribed by the board; one of whom shall be the president of the Louisiana14
Municipal Association who shall serve as an ex officio member during his tenure;15
one of whom shall be the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, but after April16
15, 1980, his place shall be taken by the chairman of the Senate Committee on17
Retirement Committee, or his designee, who shall serve as a voting ex officio18
member; and one of whom shall be the chairman of the House Committee on19
Retirement Committee of the Legislature of Louisiana, or his designee, who shall20
serve as a voting ex officio member; one of whom shall be the commissioner of21
administration who shall be a nonvoting member, or his designee; and one of22
whom shall be the state treasurer who shall be a nonvoting member, or his23
designee.24

Section 2. This Act shall become effective on June 30, 2013; if vetoed by the2
governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this act shall become effective on3
June 30, 2013, or on the day following such approval by the legislature, whichever is later.4
