ROADS/HIGHWAYS.  Prohibits the transport of hazardous materials on that portion of La.
Hwy. 48 designated as Apple Street in Norco. (8/1/13)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 32:1521(A), relative to the transportation of hazardous materials;2
to provide additional routes on which certain carriers are prohibited from3
transporting hazardous materials; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 32:1521(A) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6
ยง1521. Restrictions on transportation of hazardous materials7
A.(1) No carrier shall transport hazardous materials on Louisiana Highway8
73 between Interstate 10 and Louisiana Highway 74 and within three hundred yards9
or less of any building used as a public or private elementary or secondary school,10
except for carriers making local deliveries on this portion of Highway 73.11
(2) No carrier shall transport hazardous materials on that portion of12
Louisiana Highway 48 designated as Apple Street in Norco.13

Present law prohibits the transport of hazardous materials on La. Highway 73 between
Interstate 10 and La. Highway 74 and within 300 hundred yards or less of any building used
as a public or private elementary or secondary school, except for carriers making local
deliveries on this portion of La. Highway 73. 
Proposed law retains present law and also prohibits the transport of hazardous materials on
that portion of La. Highway 48 designated as Apple Street in Norco.
Present law provides that whoever violates present law shall be fined not more than $200,
or imprisoned for not more than 90 days, or both. Provides that on a second or subsequent
violation the offender shall be fined not less than $25 nor more than $500, or imprisoned for
not less than 10 days nor more than six months, or both. Proposed law retains present law.
Effective August 1, 2013.
