Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 75 BY SENATOR CROWE A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend the Salmen High School Lady Spartans basketball team for winning the Class 4-A state championship. WHEREAS, the Salmen High School girls basketball team from Slidell defeated St. Thomas More High School of Lafayette by a score of 40 to 39 to win the state Class 4-A basketball championship in Monroe; and WHEREAS, the season ended for the Lady Spartans with a last minute free throw that clinched the title and a season record of thirty wins and three losses; and WHEREAS, on the way to the state title the Lady Spartans defeated teams from St. Michael, Vandebilt Catholic, McDonough, Easton, Franklinton, and Hammond, among others; and WHEREAS, the Lady Spartans were honored during the season by being ranked nationally by the website "Maxpreps.com"; and WHEREAS, the Lady Spartans controlled their own destiny much of the season, finishing the season undefeated in district play; and WHEREAS, the Lady Spartans and their coach Kevin Anderson were honored by the St. Tammany Parish Council for having won the state championship and for their hard work, perseverance, commitment through the season, and the determination to win the state tournament; and WHEREAS, Terri Wortmann, principal of Salmen High School, congratulated the team on having "represented themselves with great poise and dignity" and for remaining true to the value of hard work and sportsmanship that are key to every great achievement in life; and WHEREAS, in winning the girls Class 4-A basketball championship, the Lady Spartans of Salmen High School represented themselves, their school, and their parish in an outstanding and positive manner, an accomplishment of which all the team members and coaches may be justly proud. SCR NO. 75 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Salmen High School Lady Spartan basketball team for winning the Class 4-A state championship.
