Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 101 BY SENATOR CLAITOR A RESOLUTION To commend Louise Martin for her dedicated public service with the Department of Education. WHEREAS, Louise Martin was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, although her father's family was from Shreveport and her mother's family was from Kenner; and WHEREAS, she earned her AB at Radcliffe College, in Cambridge, Massachusetts and subsequently studied to become a professional archivist; and WHEREAS, Louise Martin has special interest in the literature and culture of Eastern Europe and lived for a time in Poland, where she studied Polish and translated Polish literature into English; and WHEREAS, she has remarkable artistic gifts and has studied poetry, music of all kinds (especially folk music), regional American cookery, sewing, and crafts; and WHEREAS, Louise Martin writes poetry and gives poetry readings and regularly attends Louisiana arts festivals featuring performances and classes in mountain dulcimer, shape-note singing, and other folk arts, not to mention the delicious Louisiana food; and WHEREAS, when her family visits, she takes them on tours of old settlements, communities, and plantations as part of her continuing interest in Louisiana history and architecture; and WHEREAS, Louise Martin is also interested in nature and in the preservation and care of wild and domestic birds and animals and is an expert on cockatiels; and WHEREAS, an Administrative Assistant within the appropriations controls division of the Department of Education, she began employment with the department on December 18, 2001; and WHEREAS, Louise Martin was very instrumental in the design and implementation of the Department of Education's records management and retention policies and procedures; and SR NO. 101 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, on May 17, 2013, she will leave the Department of Education ending approximately twelve years of dedicated public service. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Louise Martin for her dedicated public service and wishes her well in her future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Louise Martin. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
