SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 135
BY SENATOR THOMPSON 
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Mangham High School Dragons baseball team on winning the 2013 Class
1A state tournament.
WHEREAS, the number two seed Dragons and head coach, Scott Wilcher, are
accustomed to being on the 1A state tournament stage; and
WHEREAS, the reign of the state championships have belonged to private schools
for the past twelve years until Mangham High scored a four-to-two victory over Central
Catholic; and
WHEREAS, the last public school to win the 1A title was Oak Grove in 2001, when
the Tigers defeated St. Edmunds in a two-to-one victory; and
WHEREAS, sophomore pitcher Ridge Heisler described the win as a dream, thinking
it would never happen; and
WHEREAS, in the past six years, the Dragons reached the state tournament four
times, including two state title game appearances; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, Mangham High School lost to Cavalry Baptist, three-to-two,
and in 2009 to Northlake, one-to-zero, making them even more determined in this year's
championship game where they found themselves down in the early innings; and
WHEREAS, the Dragons continued to chip away and scratched across one run in the
second, third, fourth, and fifth innings, to finally bring its first state baseball title home to
Richland Parish; and
WHEREAS, Coach Wilcher gives proper and due credit to his team and assistant
coaches, determined to fight and work together to attain their win; and
WHEREAS, Coach Wilcher convinced all Dragon team members that no opposing
team was going to give them the win, the team would have to take the win; and SR NO. 135	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, senior and designated hitter Dylan Ridgeway sent a solid message of
stick-to-itiveness when he tied the game on a solo blast over the left field wall in the third
inning; and
WHEREAS, the Dragons continued their exciting victory after Mr. Ridgeway's home
run, Cody Turner knocked in what proved to be the go-ahead run in the fourth inning on a
sacrifice fly; and
WHEREAS, a long awaited state championship belonged to the Mangham High
School Dragons, leaving coaches, fans and the entire team speechless and truly proud; and
WHEREAS, the accolades for the win go to principal Connie Williams, head coach
Scott Wilcher, assistant coaches Joe Meeks, Todd Ridgeway and Jerry Ford along with the
young men who compose the Mangham High School Dragons including seniors MVP Cody
Turner, Dillon Santiago, Colton Monin, Chance Fleming, Luke Watts, and Garret Dye;
juniors Lance Romero, Landon Hammons, Tyler Day, and Trey Cureington; sophomores
Dustin Self, Casey Richardson, Will Gibson, Briar Prewitt, Jess Glass, Ridge Heisler, Tucker
Armstrong, Dillon Harrison, Dylan Ridgeway, Will Hatwell, and Tim Washam, along with
eighth graders Aaron Parker and Christopher Fleming.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend the Mangham High School Dragons baseball team on winning the
2013 Class 1A state tournament.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Mangham High School principal Connie Williams and Dragons head coach Scott Wilcher.
