Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 14 BY SENATOR NEVERS A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate Reverend Robert L. "Bob" Adams, upon his retirement as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, Louisiana. WHEREAS, Reverend Adams was born in Big Spring, Texas, on April 15, 1945, spending much of his childhood growing up as the son of a bi-vocational pastor in Hobbs, New Mexico, in the high plains desert of southeastern New Mexico; and WHEREAS, Reverend Adams and his wife, Janice, were married in June, 1966, and are proud to be the parents of two grown daughters, Lisa Adams Thomas and Susan Adams Moffett, and the grandparents of four grandchildren, Allison and Jennifer Thomas, and Adam and Ashley Moffett; and WHEREAS, Reverend Adams attended Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, and then completed postgraduate studies at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, the University of New Orleans, Southeastern Louisiana University and Moody Bible Institute, in Chicago, Illinois; and WHEREAS, after serving as senior pastor in churches in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas of southern Florida for 26 years, Reverend Adams and his wife, Janice (Pulling) Adams, arrived in Bogalusa in May, 2001 to accept the pastorate at First Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Reverend Adams for nine years served as a founding member and an integral part of the LSU Bogalusa Medical Center Foundation Board, further serving as a founding member of the Community Support Group that worked to bring the LSU Family Practice Residency Program to the LSU Bogalusa Medical Center; and WHEREAS, Reverend Adams was selected as the 2005 Bogalusa Citizen of the Year, and served as a member of a special study committee with the Bogalusa City School system at a time of critical transition and strategic planning for the future of the city's school system; and SR NO. 14 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Reverend Adams helped cofound the "Christ for the City" effort, begun in November 2002 and continued to the present day, where churches of all denominations come together for a week of prayer and worship services during Holy Week; and WHEREAS, Reverend Adams has, over the past three decades, authored and published through LifeWay Publishing several hundred articles and materials for preschoolers through senior adults, addressing the life of the church, Bible study principles, devotional materials and special needs ministries; and WHEREAS, Reverend Adams worked tirelessly in recovery efforts after Hurricane Andrew and Hurricane Katrina, and has helped to establish churches in English, Spanish, Haitian and Korean languages, and has served on international missions to Jamaica, Chile, Argentina and Latvia; and WHEREAS, Reverend Adams resolves to leave First Baptist Church with a sense of hope, remembering it as a "strong, healthy congregation that's full of grace," and pledging to be an even larger part of the Bogalusa community during his retirement. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Reverend Robert L. "Bob" Adams upon his retirement as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Reverend Robert L. "Bob" Adams.
