SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 141
BY SENATOR JOHN SMITH 
A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of Roy Lee Marley Jr.
WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow that the members of the Senate of the Legislature
of Louisiana have learned of the passing of Roy Lee Marley Jr., on May 25, 2013, at age
seventy; and 
WHEREAS, he was a native of Siler City, North Carolina, and a resident of Baton
Rouge who received his Business Administration degree from Duke University in 1964; and
WHEREAS, Roy attended Duke University for four years on athletic scholarships
for football and baseball and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity; and 
WHEREAS, he began his career with Exxon in Raleigh, North Carolina, in
December 1964, in the Marketing Department as a sales representative and, over the next
seventeen years, progressed through a number of marketing assignments throughout the
South, Florida and Texas; and
WHEREAS, in 1981, Roy joined the Public Affairs organization in New Orleans and
had various assignments before becoming the Louisiana Government Affairs Manager for
Exxon in 1986; and
WHEREAS, he continued to lobby for Exxon from 1982 to 2001 during the
legislative sessions in Louisiana and several other states and served as a committee chair and
on several committees for Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association; and
WHEREAS, in addition, he served on committees for Louisiana Association of
Business and Industry, Louisiana Chemical Association, and the Governors Energy Task
Force; and
WHEREAS, he retired from Exxon in 2001 after thirty-seven years of service; and
WHEREAS, Roy was an excellent athlete and excelled in tennis and running, playing
singles on a local and state level and was a member of Bocage Racquet Club; and SR NO. 141	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, he enjoyed running every day and ran in local runs and in numerous
marathons; and
WHEREAS, he also enjoyed SCUBA diving with his wife, family and friends and
was a former member of the City Club of Baton Rouge and the Tiger Athletic Foundation;
and
WHEREAS, Roy was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Rings n'
Ivy Sunday School class; and
WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee Marley Sr. and Perry
Craft Marley and is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Judy Canaday Marley; his
daughter Sheri Marley Loy and her husband Stephen Loy; three grandsons, Tucker Hayes,
Hayden Marley and Parker James; son Travis Lee Marley and his wife Melanie Lowe
Marley; and grandchildren, Lillian Reese and Mason Lee; a brother, Danny Marley and
sister-in-law Barbara Marley; and
WHEREAS, Roy's greatest love was his family and grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, those who knew Roy will remember him for his quick wit, sense of
humor and laughter and his a genuine love of life. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby express sincere condolences to the family of Roy Lee Marley Jr. on the occasion
of his death.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Judy
Canaday Marley.
PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
