Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 182 BY SENATORS HEITMEIER AND ALARIO A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of David Daniels Sr. of New Orleans, Louisiana. WHEREAS, David Daniels, a native of New York City and longtime resident of New Orleans, used his numerous gifts to assist many who crossed his path; and WHEREAS, Mr. Daniels was born on January 14, 1953, to Benjamin and Joyce Daniels, the fourth child of what would eventually be a family of nine children; and WHEREAS, Mr. Daniels attended high school and graduated from PS 22 in New York City and continued his studies in college, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work; and WHEREAS, Mr. Daniels was driven to help people, as is evidenced by his course of study in college, and this drive contributed to his decision to relocate himself and his daughter, Keisha, from New York to New Orleans, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, once Mr. Daniels and Keisha moved to New Orleans, he met Mary LaCour who captured his heart and to whom he was married on December 13, 1977; and WHEREAS, David and Mary Daniels were blessed with two additional children, David Daniels II and Keirand Brittany; and WHEREAS, in 1997, having taught himself computer and software skills, David opened his own computer company; and WHEREAS, Mr. Daniels loved his family and he supported and nurtured them in all their endeavors, but Mr. Daniels also used his gifts to mentor young men, including the five young foster sons that he and Mary brought into their home and their family; and WHEREAS, in the year 2000, Mr. Daniels and Mary took their life skills and their love of and commitment to young men with few advantages to the next level by opening a school for juveniles who had exhausted all their educational options within the system; and SR NO. 182 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, David most successfully assisted his children, both through his marriage and through fostering children, by setting an example of living a life of love of one's family and one's God, and by using all the gifts granted to one in this life to better the lives of others; and WHEREAS, on April 2, 2013, David Daniels calming spirit left this earth too early, at the age of sixty, and left a large family to mourn his passing and to endeavor to live their lives in a way that will reflect all that David taught and the examples he set out for his children and all those whom he mentored to follow; and WHEREAS, left to cherish the memory of David and to place their lives on the path that he walked in his life are his wife of nearly thirty-six years, Mary LaCour Daniels; his children Keisha, David Daniels II, and Keirand; his seven grandchildren and other relatives; his beloved friends David Heitmeier and Damon Murray; and the myriad of young people who came into contact with David and whose lives were bettered by that contact. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express their sincere condolences upon the death of David Daniels Sr. of New Orleans, Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mary LaCour Daniels and their children in loving memory of all that he stood for, in his work life and in his life with his family.
