Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 190 BY SENATOR MURRAY A RESOLUTION To commend Dr. Alfredo Suarez upon his retirement from Louisiana State University Health Care Services Division and to recognize his unwavering passion, dedication, and contributions to his chosen field of pathology, countless medical students, and his patients at Earl K. Long Medical Center. WHEREAS, in 1942, Dr. Suarez was born in Valle de la Pascua, Venezuela; and WHEREAS, Dr. Suarez's mother, Carmen Suarez, raised him and his siblings as a single mother; and WHEREAS, at age seventeen, Dr. Suarez began assisting his first cousin, Jose, a pathologist in Venezuela, where his intelligence and drive led him to medical school; and WHEREAS, in 1965, Dr. Suarez graduated from the Central University School of Medicine of Venezuela; and WHEREAS, in 1966, Dr. Alfredo Suarez was one of four Venezuelan students invited to the United States to continue his medical education; and WHEREAS, Dr. Suarez attended Louisiana State University to learn English and two years later he was selected as chief resident of Charity Hospital of New Orleans; and WHEREAS, Dr. Suarez began his career at Earl K. Long Medical Center in 1974; and WHEREAS, Dr. Suarez devoted his medical career to mentoring his students and caring for his patients who were often socially marginalized and underserved; and WHEREAS, Dr. Suarez has also been qualified as an expert in pathology by several courts, including providing testimony for the prosecution in the serial killer trial of Derrick Todd Lee; and SR NO. 190 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, after thirty-nine years of dedicated and selfless service to his patients, fellow employees, and students, Dr. Suarez looks forward to spending quality time with his two daughters, Christine and Alicia, and his three grandsons, Asher, Emilio, and Jack; and WHEREAS, Kimmie, Dr. Suarez's beloved dog, looks forward to relaxing with her dad on their patio. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Dr. Alfredo Suarez upon his retirement from Louisiana State University Health Care Services Division and to recognize his unwavering passion, dedication, and contributions to his chosen field of pathology, countless medical students, and his patients at Earl K. Long Medical Center. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Dr. Alfredo Suarez. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
