A RESOLUTION
To commend Daniel L. Juneau for his years of service upon the occasion of his retirement
as the president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry.
WHEREAS, as Dan Juneau prepares to retire from the Louisiana Association of
Business and Industry, the 2013 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature will mark the
final session wherein he serves as president of the organization; and
WHEREAS, he merits a special commendation for his lifelong commitment to
economic growth in Louisiana and his extensive service to the people and business
community of Louisiana as president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry;
and
WHEREAS, Dan Juneau has devoted the past forty years of his life to fighting for
key reforms necessary to improve Louisiana's business climate and strengthen its economy;
and
WHEREAS, he was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, and grew up in Rapides Parish
where he attended public schools and graduated from Menard Memorial High School and
thereafter Louisiana State University in Alexandria; and
WHEREAS, Dan Juneau received his bachelor of arts degree in liberal arts from the
University of Louisiana in Lafayette and thereafter was an instructor at Rayne Catholic
Elementary School in Rayne, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, he was selected to serve as general manager of the Lafayette Chamber
of Commerce in 1972, a position he held for 14 years, during which time he learned the
challenges facing businesses at the local level; and  SR NO. 191	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, during this same period, Dan Juneau also served as vice president of the
Louisiana Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, chairman of the Louisiana
Business Task Force on Unemployment Compensation, and chairman of the Labor-
Management Council of LABI; and
WHEREAS, he left his position at the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and moved
to Baton Rouge to become vice president of government relations for the Louisiana
Association of Business and Industry; and
WHEREAS, in 1989, after three years as vice president and chief lobbyist, Dan
Juneau was chosen to lead the organization as the second president of the Louisiana
Association of Business and Industry; and
WHEREAS, Dan Juneau was an active participant in many of the key legislative
reform initiatives over the past forty years, including passage of Right to Work,
unemployment and workers compensation reforms, education accountability, insurance
availability and affordability, river pilotage reform, civil justice reform, workforce
development, and the reduction or repeal of business taxes that placed Louisiana at a
competitive disadvantage with its neighboring states; and 
WHEREAS, during the twenty-four years he has led the Louisiana business
community's premier organization, Dan Juneau also served as vice chairman of the Senate
Committee to Study Tax Exemptions, a member of the Public Affairs Committee of the U.S.
Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Louisiana Supreme Court Advisory Commission,
a member of the Louisiana Health Care Redesign Collaborative, and a member of the
Louisiana Task Force on Workforce Competitiveness; and
WHEREAS, he has continuously shown his passion to improve public and alternative
education by serving as a member of the Commission on Secondary School Redesign, a
member of the School Finance Review Committee, a member of the School District
Dialogue State Review Commission, a member of the Blue Ribbon Commission for
Educational Excellence, and a member of the board of directors of Teach for America; and
WHEREAS, Dan Juneau's strong support for education is particularly shown by his
service as the chairman of the School Improvement Team at Northdale Magnet Academy
in Baton Rouge, one of Louisiana's first alternative high schools for at-risk youth; and SR NO. 191	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, his peers in positions similar to his as president of a state chamber of
commerce and manufacturers association have honored him by choosing him to serve on the
board of directors of the National Association of Manufacturers, as chairman of the Council
of State Manufacturers Association, and twice as chairman of the Council of State Chambers
of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Dan Juneau has positioned LABI as a strong force for an improved
business climate in Louisiana, and he believes that strong, positive, ethical participation in
legislative and judicial elections plus active involvement in the legislative process is a must
for businesses to survive and flourish in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, he and his wife Charmaine Hebert Juneau, a retired National Board
Certified instructor at Gonzales Middle School in Ascension Parish, share three children,
Casey, Josh, and Jacob, and two grandchildren, Braydon and Aurora, with whom they share
many interests including fishing at the Juneau Camp at Butte LaRose, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize Dan Juneau's commitment and service to
the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend Daniel L. Juneau for his years of service upon his retirement as
president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, does hereby recognize his
forty-year career of very distinguished service to the state of Louisiana, does hereby
recognize and record for posterity his notable accomplishments and manifold contributions
to the Louisiana business community, and does hereby extend to Dan Juneau and his family
best wishes for continued health and happiness and a well-deserved retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Daniel L. Juneau.
