Commends the city of Lafayette on being named the state winner in Category J in the Louisiana Garden Club Federation's Cleanest City Contest. A RESOLUTION1 To commend the city of Lafayette on being named the state winner in Category J in the2 Louisiana Garden Club Federation's Cleanest City Contest.3 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the city of Lafayette on being named state4 winner in the Cleanest City Contest, and for being such a great reflection on the state of5 Louisiana; and6 WHEREAS, in 1958, the Louisiana Garden Club Federation was first among7 members of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., to sponsor a statewide Cleanest City Contest;8 and9 WHEREAS, the aim of the contest is to instill civic pride in the individual citizens10 and thus improve the appearance of towns and cities; and11 WHEREAS, each year the competition has become stronger, and the cities and towns12 have achieved higher and higher standards of cleanliness; and13 WHEREAS, each municipality that competes in the contest must be sponsored by14 a garden club; and15 WHEREAS, Lafayette has a garden club that is 102 members strong; and16 WHEREAS, in 2013, Lafayette was awarded the distinguished designation of17 Cleanest City by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc.; and18 SR NO. 199 SLS 13RS-3630 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, it was a tremendous effort by everyone involved, which included many1 volunteers, Lafayette Consolidated Government Public Works employees, the Lafayette2 Garden Club, the Keep Lafayette Beautiful initiative, the Cleanest City Committee, and a3 host of others.4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana5 does hereby commend the city of Lafayette on being named state winner in Category J in the6 Cleanest City Contest, and for being such a great reflection on the state of Louisiana.7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the8 Lafayette Consolidated Government City-Parish President and the Lafayette Garden Club.9 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Jerry J.
