Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 199 BY SENATORS CORTEZ, GUILLORY, MILLS AND PERRY A RESOLUTION To commend the city of Lafayette on being named the state winner in Category J in the Louisiana Garden Club Federation's Cleanest City Contest. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the city of Lafayette on being named state winner in the Cleanest City Contest, and for being such a great reflection on the state of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, in 1958, the Louisiana Garden Club Federation was first among members of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., to sponsor a statewide Cleanest City Contest; and WHEREAS, the aim of the contest is to instill civic pride in the individual citizens and thus improve the appearance of towns and cities; and WHEREAS, each year the competition has become stronger, and the cities and towns have achieved higher and higher standards of cleanliness; and WHEREAS, each municipality that competes in the contest must be sponsored by a garden club; and WHEREAS, Lafayette has a garden club that is 102 members strong; and WHEREAS, in 2013, Lafayette was awarded the distinguished designation of Cleanest City by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc.; and WHEREAS, it was a tremendous effort by everyone involved, which included many volunteers, Lafayette Consolidated Government Public Works employees, the Lafayette Garden Club, the Keep Lafayette Beautiful initiative, the Cleanest City Committee, and a host of others. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the city of Lafayette on being named state winner in Category J in the Cleanest City Contest, and for being such a great reflection on the state of Louisiana.
