SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 38
BY SENATOR ERDEY 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends LSU student Corey Landry of Denham Springs on being
a recipient of a Goldwater Scholarship.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend and congratulate Corey Landry of Denham Springs on being a recipient of a2
prestigious Goldwater Scholarship.3
WHEREAS, the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program4
was established by Congress in 1986 to honor Senator Barry M. Goldwater, who served his5
country for fifty-six years as a soldier and statesman, including thirty years of service in the6
United States Senate; and7
WHEREAS, the purpose of the program is to provide a continuing source of highly8
qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college9
students who intend to pursue careers in these fields; and10
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and11
Excellence in Education Foundation awarded two hundred seventy-one scholarships for the12
2013-2014 academic year to undergraduate sophomores and juniors from the United States;13
and14
WHEREAS, recipients of the Goldwater Scholarships were selected on the basis of15
academic merit from a field of one thousand one hundred seven mathematics, science, and16
engineering students who were nominated by the faculties of colleges and universities17

WHEREAS, Corey Landry of Denham Springs was awarded a prestigious Goldwater1
Scholarship by the foundation; and2
WHEREAS, Corey is a biological engineering major who will graduate in 2014 and3
hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering; and4
WHEREAS, Corey's goal is to develop point-of-care diagnostic devices to streamline5
medical care in refugee camps and developing world clinics; and6
WHEREAS, Corey, along with his family, teaches English to the refugee community7
settled in the Baton Rouge area; and8
WHEREAS, Corey Landry merits the utmost respect for the exemplary strides he has9
taken in his pursuit of academic excellence, and for the tremendous honor and pride that he10
brings to his family, friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.11
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana12
does hereby commend and congratulate Corey Landry on being awarded a prestigious13
Goldwater Scholarship by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education14
Program.15
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to16
Corey Landry.17
