SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 48
BY SENATOR MURRAY 
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough on becoming the seventh president
of Dillard University.
WHEREAS, Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough began his appointment as the seventh
president of Dillard University as well as one of the youngest college presidents in the nation
on July 1, 2012; and
WHEREAS, he earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia, a
Master of Science from Miami University in Ohio, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher
Education from Georgia State University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kimbrough served in administrative capacities at Albany State
University, Old Dominion University, Georgia State University, and Emory University; and
WHEREAS, he most recently served as the president of Philander Smith College in
Little Rock, Arkansas and is known as the Hip-Hop President; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kimbrough serves on national boards and committees, including
the United Negro College Fund and maintains active memberships in higher education
associations including the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators,
Association of Fraternity Advisory, and Brothers of the Academy; and
WHEREAS, he has given over 500 presentations on fraternalism life at campuses and
conferences across the country and is the author of the book, Black Greek 101: The Culture,
Customs, and Challenges of Black Fraternities and Sororities, which was an Essence
magazine top 10 best seller and is currently in its tenth printing; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kimbrough has been recognized for this research and writings on
HBCUs and African American men in college and has also been noted for his active use of
social media to engage students in articles in The Chronicle of Higher Education, CASE
Currents, and Arkansas Life; and SR NO. 48	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, he was named by Diverse Issues in Higher Education as one of 25 to
Watch and in 2010, he made the coveted Ebony Magazine Power 100 list of doers and
influencers in the African American community; and
WHEREAS, the students, faculty, and staff of Dillard University welcomed Dr.
Kimbrough to the helm of their campuses and look forward to his tenure as president; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kimbrough merits a special measure of commendation upon his
selection as President of Dillard University.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough upon his appointment as
the seventh president of Dillard University and hereby recognizes and records for posterity
his exemplary leadership, and hereby extends to him best wishes for continuing success as
the president of Dillard University.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Dr.
Walter M. Kimbrough.
