HEALTH CARE/PROVIDERS:  Provides relative to collaborative practice agreements
between advanced practice registered nurses and physicians
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 37:1270(D), relative to duties and powers of the Louisiana State Board of2
Medical Examiners; to provide relative to collaborative practice agreements between3
physicians and advanced practice registered nurses; to provide for a limitation on4
regulatory authority of the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners; and to5
provide for related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1.  R.S. 37:1270(D) is hereby enacted to read as follows:8

D. Nothing in this Part shall be construed to authorize the board to limit the11
right of a physician and an advanced practice registered nurse to engage in a12
collaborative practice agreement as provided in R.S. 37:913.13
Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not14
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature15
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.  If16
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become17

Abstract: Provides relative to collaborative practice agreements between advanced practice
registered nurses and physicians; prohibits the La. State Board of Medical Examiners
from limiting the right of nurses and physicians to enter into such agreements.
Present law provides for duties and powers of the La. State Board of Medical Examiners
(board).
Proposed law retains present law and adds a provision stipulating that nothing in present law
shall be construed to authorize the board to limit the right of a physician and an advanced
practice registered nurse to engage in a collaborative practice agreement as provided in
present law, R.S. 37:913.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
