AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 32:863.1(B), relative to evidence of compulsory motor vehicle2
liability security contained in a motor vehicle; to provide for document requirements;3
to provide for compliance checks by law enforcement officers; and to provide for4
related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 32:863.1(B) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:7
ยง863.1. Evidence of compulsory motor vehicle liability security contained in8
vehicle; enforcement; penalty; fees9

B.(1) When a law enforcement officer stops a vehicle at an administrative11
violations checkpoint, or in connection with an alleged violation of the law, or for12
any other reason, or when a law enforcement officer investigates an accident, the law13
enforcement officer shall determine if the owner or lessee of each vehicle is in14
compliance with the provisions of this Section which require evidence of liability15
insurance or other security to be contained in the vehicle.16
(2) When a law enforcement officer makes a compliance determination as17
required by Paragraph (1) of this Subsection, the officer shall also determine if the18
owner or lessee of each vehicle is compliant with the requirements of R.S. 32:86119
by electronically verifying, as applicable by means within his capacity, that the20
documents evidencing compliance are current.21
 (3) If the owner or lessee is not in compliance with those the provisions of22
this Part, the law enforcement officer shall take the actions specified in this Section.23

Section 2. This Act shall become effective if, as, and when that Act which originated1
as House Bill No. 872 of the 2014 Regular Session of the Legislature is enacted and becomes2
effective.3
