SUPPLEMENTAL PAY: Provides for additional state supplemental pay for certain law
enforcement officers with a postgraduate academic degree
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 33:2218.11, relative to state supplemental pay for certain law enforcement2
officers; to provide for additional supplemental pay for law enforcement officers3
who possess a postgraduate academic degree; to provide for an effective date; and4
to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 33:2218.11 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7
ยง2218.11. Extra compensation for commissioned law enforcement officers;8
postgraduate academic degrees9
A. Any police officer eligible for state supplemental monthly compensation10
pursuant to R.S. 33:2218.2 who has received such compensation for no less than one11
year, and who possesses a postgraduate academic degree issued by an accredited12
public or private college or university, shall be paid by the state additional13
compensation in the amount of two hundred dollars per month. Compensation paid14
pursuant to the provisions of this Subsection shall be in addition to state15
supplemental monthly compensation the police officer receives and shall be paid in16
the same manner as state supplemental monthly compensation pursuant to R.S.17
33.2218.2.18
B. Any deputy sheriff eligible for state supplemental monthly compensation19

year, and who possesses a postgraduate academic degree issued by an accredited1
public or private college or university, shall be paid by the state additional2
compensation in the amount of two hundred dollars per month. Compensation paid3
pursuant to the provisions of this Subsection shall be in addition to state4
supplemental monthly compensation the deputy sheriff receives and shall be paid in5
the same manner as the state supplemental monthly compensation pursuant to R.S.6
33.2218.8.7
Section 2. This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2014; if vetoed by the governor8
and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on July 1,9
2014, or on the day following such approval by the legislature, whichever is later.10

Abstract: Provides additional supplemental pay of $200 per month for law enforcement
officers who received supplemental pay for one year and who possess a postgraduate
academic degree.
Present law (R.S. 33:2218.2) provides state supplemental pay of $500 per month for
municipal and tribal police officers after one year of service. Present law (R.S. 33:2218.8)
provides state supplemental pay of $500 per month for certain deputy sheriffs after one year
of service.    
Proposed law requires the state to pay an additional $200 per month to any such law
enforcement officers and deputy sheriffs who received such supplemental pay for no less
than one year and who possess a postgraduate academic degree issued by an accredited
public or private college or university.
Effective July 1, 2014.
