New law provides for the design and creation of the "Down Syndrome Awareness" special
prestige plate provided there is a minimum of 1,000 applicants.
New law provides that the license plate shall be issued, upon application, to any citizen of
La. in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.
New law authorizes the collection of a $30 royalty fee, as well as a handling fee of $3.50, for
each plate to be retained by the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to offset a portion of
administrative costs.
New law requires that monies collected by the department be forwarded to the Down
Syndrome Association of Acadiana, or its successor organization, to be used solely to
promote the interests of persons with Down syndrome and their families through advocacy
and public awareness throughout the state.
Effective August 1, 2014.
