Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE BILL NO. 630 BY REPRESENTATIVE ANDERS OPTOMETRISTS: Provides relative to the practice of optometry and the regulation of such profession AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 37:1041(A), relative to the practice of optometry and regulations2 of such profession; to provide relative to the legislative declaration; and to provide3 for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 37:1041(A) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6 ยง1041. Legislative declaration; statement of purpose; definitions7 A. The practice of optometry in the state of Louisiana is declared a8 professional practice affecting the public health, safety, and welfare and is subject9 to regulation and control in the public interest. It is further declared to be a matter10 of public interest and concern that the practice of optometry, as defined in this11 Chapter, merit and receive the confidence of the public and that only qualified12 persons be permitted to engage in the practice of optometry in the state of Louisiana.13 This Chapter shall be liberally construed to carry out these objectives and purposes.14 * * *15 Section 2.
