HEALTH: Allows the use of a mode of transportation other than an ambulance for a
nonemergency situation
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 40:1235(B)(1), relative to medical transportation services; to authorize the use2
of a mode of transportation other than an ambulance in a nonemergency situation;3
to require the mode of transportation to be capable of fitting and supporting a4
stretcher; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 40:1235(B)(1) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7
ยง1235.  Qualifications to operate ambulances; equipment; penalty8

B.(1) Nothing in this Subpart shall be construed to prohibit the use of a mode10
of transportation other than an ambulance to transport an injured or ill individual in11
a nonemergency situation, provided the alternative mode of transportation is capable12
of fitting and supporting a stretcher and the conveyance may be made without13
endangering the individual's health.14

Abstract: Authorizes the use of a mode of transportation other than an ambulance in a
nonemergency situation if the mode of transportation is capable of fitting and
supporting a stretcher and the conveyance may be made without endangering the
individual's health.
Present law provides for the regulation of emergency medical transportation including
ambulances and other emergency medical response vehicles.
Proposed law retains present law and authorizes the use of a mode of transportation other
than an ambulance to transport an injured or ill individual in a nonemergency situation,
provided the alternative mode of transportation is capable of fitting and supporting a
stretcher and the conveyance may be made without endangering the individual's health.
