AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 15:542.1.1(A)(4), relative to sex offender registration and notification2
requirements; to provide relative to the in-person periodic renewals of registration3
by persons who are required to register as a sex offender or child predator; to provide4
for the frequency of in-person periodic renewals of persons who are homeless or5
without a fixed residence; to provide for definitions; and to provide for related6
matters.7
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:8
Section 1.  R.S. 15:542.1.1(A)(4) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 9
ยง542.1.1.  In-person periodic renewal of registration by offenders10

(4)(a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Section, any person13
required to register as a sex offender or child predator pursuant to the provisions of14
this Chapter who does not have a fixed place of residence, or who is homeless, shall15
renew and update his registration with the sheriff of the parish in which he is16
homeless, or is living without a fixed residence, in person every fourteen days from17
the date on which the offender initially appeared to register with the sheriff of that18
parish pursuant to the provisions of this Chapter.  If the offender regularly resides19
homeless, or without a fixed place of residence, in more than one parish, he shall20
register with the sheriff of each parish in which he regularly resides and shall renew21
and update his registration every fourteen days with each sheriff of those parishes.22
If an offender no longer plans to reside without a fixed residence in a particular23
parish, he shall give notice, in person, to the sheriff of the parish in which he intends24 ENROLLEDHB NO. 697

to no longer reside. Failure to update or to give notice of change of residence1
pursuant to the provisions of this Paragraph shall be a violation of R.S. 15:542.1.4.2
(b) For purposes of this Section, the "parish of residence" for such offenders3
shall be the parish in which the offender is living homeless or without a fixed4
residence address.5
