AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 13:5554(DD), relative to the premium costs of group insurance for retired2
sheriffs and employees of Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office; to provide for eligibility3
for payment of premium costs; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 13:5554(DD) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
ยง5554.  Group insurance; kinds; amounts; subrogation7

DD. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, the9
Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office shall pay the premium costs of group insurance for10
any retired sheriff and any retired employee hired on or after July 1, 2014, who11
retires with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office as follows:12
(1) One hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical,13
medical expense, and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance contracted for14
under the provisions of this Section if the sheriff or employee retired from active15
duty in good standing with thirty years or more of creditable full-time service with16
the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, regardless of age.17
(2)  One hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical,18
medical expense, and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance contracted for19
under the provisions of this Section if the sheriff or employee retired from active20
duty in good standing with twenty years of creditable full-time service with the21
Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office and is at least sixty-five years of age.22 ENROLLEDHB NO. 772

(3)  For purposes of this Subsection, anyone retiring from the Lafayette1
Parish Sheriff's Office must meet all applicable requirements of this Subsection on2
their final date of employment.3
(4) The provisions of Paragraph (G)(1) of this Section shall apply to all4
persons hired by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office prior to July 1, 2014.5
