Simon	HB No. 776
Abstract: Provides relative to the purchase and resale of school buses.
Present law, relative to the purchase and resale of school buses, provides that its purpose is to
assist city and parish school boards in providing school bus transportation by facilitating the
acquisition of new and used school buses by school bus operators. Authorizes school boards to
purchase school buses and to resell them to certain school bus operators. Provides procedures for
such resale.

Proposed law retains present law but changes references to school boards from "city and parish"
school boards to "city, parish, and other local public" school boards.
Present law requires school buses purchased for the transportation of schoolchildren to meet or
exceed specifications established by the Dept. of Education (DOE).
Proposed law refers to "students" instead of "school children" and requires such specifications to
be established in State Bd. of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) rules rather than by
DOE.
