LOCAL GOVT/ORDINANCES:  Provides relative to penalties imposed for the violation
of ordinances in the city of New Orleans
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 33:1375, relative to the city of New Orleans; to provide relative to ordinances2
enacted by the governing authority of the city; to establish maximum penalties for3
the violation of such ordinances; to provide exceptions; and to provide for related4
matters.5
Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published6
as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of7
Louisiana.8
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:9
Section 1.  R.S. 33:1375 is hereby enacted to read as follows:10
ยง1375.  Maximum penalties; city of New Orleans11
Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, in the city of12
New Orleans, the maximum penalty which may be imposed for the violation of any13
ordinance enacted by the governing authority of the city shall be a fine of five14
thousand dollars. The maximum penalty established by the provisions of this15
Section shall not apply to any penalty imposed for a non-moving or parking violation16
or any other traffic violation, including any violation captured by an automated17

Abstract: Establishes a maximum penalty of $5000 for the violation of ordinances in the
city of New Orleans.  Provides exceptions.
Present law provides that the maximum penalty which may be imposed for the violation of
any ordinance enacted by the governing authority of the city of New Orleans shall be a fine
of $5000.  Provides that the maximum penalty does not apply to penalties for non-moving
or parking violations or other traffic violations, including those captured by an automated
traffic enforcement system.
