ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 123 BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To recognize Tuesday, May 6, 2014, as Kingsley House Day at the Legislature of Louisiana. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Kingsley House and to recognize May 6, 2014, as Kingsley House Day; and WHEREAS, Kingsley House, founded in 1896, serves individuals of all ages and offers services in thirteen parishes throughout the state; and WHEREAS, the mission of Kingsley House is to "educate children, strengthen families, and build communities"; and WHEREAS, Kingsley House launched the very first kindergarten and summer school programs in the state and has promoted education in the form of the Head Start and Early Head Start preschool programs; and WHEREAS, the youth services program and an after-school program provide activities for children between the ages of five and seventeen; these programs promote psychosocial skills building, creative arts, success, and respect for others while offering tutoring, mentoring, and drugs and violence prevention activities; and WHEREAS, Kingsley House Family Life Services offers various programs geared towards counseling, therapy, reintegration into the community, and the Adult Services Program provides assistance to senior citizens and medically fragile adults; and WHEREAS, the Magic Johnson Foundation Community Empowerment Center, the only facility of its kind in the state, provides the community with free access to the technology and services that the center has to offer, thereby offering access to Internet research, word processing, and other capacity-building activities; and WHEREAS, Kingsley House merits special recognition for providing community services for over one hundred seventeen years and for making a significant impact on the lives of the children and families that it serves. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 123 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Tuesday, May 6, 2014, as Kingsley House Day at the legislature. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Keith Liederman, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Kingsley House.
