BY REPRESENTATIVES ST. GERMAIN, BARROW, CHAMPAGNE, HILL, HODGES,
KATRINA JACKSON, NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH,
STOKES, THIERRY, WHITNEY, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATORS
BROOME, BUFFINGTON, DORSEY-COLOMB, AND PETERSON
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Girl Scouts Louisiana East of New Orleans, Louisiana, for being the Non-
Profit of Excellence 2014 Women of Excellence Award recipient from the Louisiana
Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation.
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts was founded in 1912 to ensure that girls receive the same
opportunities as boys; and
WHEREAS, the council of Girl Scouts Louisiana East was formed in April 2008 and
serves over 14,000 girls and 5,700 adult members in its 23 parishes; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts Louisiana East is the premier leadership development
organization for girls in kindergarten to twelfth grade in southeast Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the mission of this organization is to build girls of courage, confidence,
and character, who make the world a better place; and
WHEREAS, the council most recently implemented a Girl Scouts Beyond Bars
program for girls and their incarcerated mothers in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and
Orleans Parish Prison and a healthy living program, "Sow What?", for high school girls in
Orleans and St. Tammany parishes; and
WHEREAS, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience is designed to help girls discover
themselves and their values, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better
place; its activities are girl-led and encourage learning by doing and cooperative learning;
and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts Louisiana East strives to offer programs that encourage
healthy living, increase girls' involvement in science, technology, engineering, and math, and
improve their financial literacy. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 184

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Girl Scouts Louisiana East of New Orleans, Louisiana, for being the Non-Profit
of Excellence 2014 Women of Excellence Award recipient from the Louisiana Legislative
Women's Caucus Foundation and for being the premier leadership development organization
for girls in southeast Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the Girl Scouts Louisiana East of New Orleans, Louisiana.
