HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 20
BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To recognize November 2014 as No-Shave November in Louisiana in order to raise2
awareness of men's health issues.3
WHEREAS, there is a pressing need to call attention to men's health issues in the4
state of Louisiana; and5
WHEREAS, Louisiana has the fourth-highest mortality rate in the nation with respect6
to deaths caused by prostate cancer; and7
WHEREAS, prostate cancer is sixty percent higher in African Americans than in any8
other group of people, disproportionately affects people who are obese, and is hereditary in9
nature; and10
WHEREAS, research shows that women tend to make the health care decisions in11
the family, so they should be made aware of the need to encourage their significant others,12
fathers, and sons to see their doctors and determine if a prostate cancer test is appropriate;13
and14
WHEREAS, No-Shave November is a web-based organization devoted to raising15
cancer awareness by putting a fun twist on the month of November; and16
WHEREAS, the No-Shave November campaign started in November 2009 on17
Facebook with fewer than fifty participants and has since grown dramatically as thousands18
of people across the globe join the fight against cancer and put down their razors for the19

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1
recognize November 2014 as No-Shave November in Louisiana to raise awareness of men's2
health issues and does hereby encourage men to schedule physicals with their doctors to3
determine whether prostate cancer testing is indicated.4
