HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 44
BY REPRESENTATIVE CARTER
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the University High School boys' basketball team upon winning the Class 3A
state championship title and to congratulate the Cubs on an outstanding 2013-2014
season.
WHEREAS, the Cubs captured the Class 3A title in a 69-64 victory over Richwood
High School at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association-State Farm Boys Top 28
tournament, which is their first state title since 2004; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Joe Spencer prepared the Cubs by instilling in the team the
confidence and skills that are needed for continued success in the future; and
WHEREAS, University High School is the first school since 2011 to capture boys
and girls state titles in the same season; and
WHEREAS, all members of the University High School boys' basketball team
deserve merit recognition for their outstanding performance; it is appropriate to commend
title-game outstanding player, Wayde Sims, for finishing with a team-high of nineteen points
on seven-for-twelve shooting and leading the Cubs with nine rebounds, while Maxwell
Starwood added eighteen points on seven-for-ten shooting; and
WHEREAS, the University High School Cubs bring a commanding sense of honor
and immense pride to their school, community, and the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate the members of the University High School boys' basketball team
and Head Coach Joe Spencer for winning the Class 3A state title at the Louisiana High
School Athletic Association-State Farm Boys Top 28 tournament, and for completing a
successful 2013-2014 season through such dedicated performance, which brings honor to
their school, community, and the state of Louisiana. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 44

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Head Coach Joe Spencer.
