COMMENDATIONS: Commends the University High girls' basketball team upon winning
the Class 3A state championship
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend the University High School girls' basketball team upon winning the Class 3A2
state championship title and to congratulate the Cubs on an outstanding 2013-20143
season.4
WHEREAS, the third-seeded University High School girls' basketball team claimed5
a 63-56 victory over top-seeded Ville Platte in the Class 3A title game at the Louisiana High6
School Athletic Association Girls Top 28 basketball tournament; and7
WHEREAS, the thrilling victory was a memorable one for the Cubs, as it was8
University High School's first state title in girls' basketball; and9
WHEREAS, Head Coach Bonita Johnson has given the players the necessary skills10
to become great basketball players and outstanding members in their community by11
demonstrating motivational leadership to produce winners on or off the court; and12
WHEREAS, all members of the Cubs basketball team deserve recognition for their13
outstanding game performance; title-game outstanding player, Kaila Anderson, finished with14
a game-high of seventeen points and six rebounds; Terriel Ross finished with fourteen points15
and twelve rebounds; Destiny Ephrom finished with eleven points and ten rebounds; and16
Breanna Pete finished with fifteen points and made thirteen out of fourteen free throws,17
while Shalinda Thomas added twelve points to the winning game total; and18
WHEREAS, the legislature wishes to recognize the well-deserved Cubs on their19
Class 3A state title, to commend the team for the ability they have displayed to overcome20
adversity, and to express its congratulations to the team members and to Head Coach Bonita21 HLS 14RS-1996 ORIGINAL

Johnson for the merits won and the pride shown while achieving such a high honor for their1
school.2
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby3
commend and congratulate the members of the University High School girls' basketball team4
and Head Coach Bonita Johnson for winning the Class 3A state title at the Louisiana High5
School Athletic Association Girls Top 28 basketball tournament, and for completing a6
successful 2013-2014 season through such dedicated performance, which brings honor to7
their school, community, and the state of Louisiana.8
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted9
to Head Coach Bonita Johnson.10
