HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 45
BY REPRESENTATIVE CARTER
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the University High School girls' basketball team upon winning the Class 3A
state championship title and to congratulate the Cubs on an outstanding 2013-2014
season.
WHEREAS, the third-seeded University High School girls' basketball team claimed
a 63-56 victory over top-seeded Ville Platte in the Class 3A title game at the Louisiana High
School Athletic Association Girls Top 28 basketball tournament; and
WHEREAS, the thrilling victory was a memorable one for the Cubs, as it was
University High School's first state title in girls' basketball; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Bonita Johnson has given the players the necessary skills
to become great basketball players and outstanding members in their community by
demonstrating motivational leadership to produce winners on or off the court; and
WHEREAS, all members of the Cubs basketball team deserve recognition for their
outstanding game performance; title-game outstanding player, Kaila Anderson, finished with
a game-high of seventeen points and six rebounds; Terriel Ross finished with fourteen points
and twelve rebounds; Destiny Ephrom finished with eleven points and ten rebounds; and
Breanna Pete finished with fifteen points and made thirteen out of fourteen free throws,
while Shalinda Thomas added twelve points to the winning game total; and
WHEREAS, the legislature wishes to recognize the well-deserved Cubs on their
Class 3A state title, to commend the team for the ability they have displayed to overcome
adversity, and to express its congratulations to the team members and to Head Coach Bonita
Johnson for the merits won and the pride shown while achieving such a high honor for their
school.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate the members of the University High School girls' basketball team ENROLLEDHCR NO. 45

and Head Coach Bonita Johnson for winning the Class 3A state title at the Louisiana High
School Athletic Association Girls Top 28 basketball tournament, and for completing a
successful 2013-2014 season through such dedicated performance, which brings honor to
their school, community, and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Head Coach Bonita Johnson.
