HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 107
BY REPRESENTATIVE THOMPSON
A RESOLUTION
To commend Lauren Haigler, a senior at Airline High School in Bossier City, upon being
named a finalist for the 2014 Louisiana High School Student of the Year award.
WHEREAS, the future of Louisiana is brightened by students who excel in the
classroom and serve as role models for others; and
WHEREAS, Bossier City's Lauren Catherine Haigler is one such student, having
earned an American College Test (ACT) composite score of 31, a Taylor Opportunity
Program for Students (TOPS) grade point average of 4.0, and a 1.38 ranking in her class of
three hundred eighty-one students at Airline High School; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Haigler is a member of the National Beta Club and the National
Honor Society, and she is a Freshman Mentor Program member, having been chosen by
Airline High School faculty to shepherd incoming freshmen; and
WHEREAS, while excelling academically in high school, Ms. Haigler maintains an
active extracurricular life by being a ballet instructor at the Theatre School of Dance and a
preschool leader at The Simple Church; she has volunteered during school spring breaks to
serve underprivileged children, clean abandoned apartment buildings, plant trees, and
organize clothing donations in the cities of Arlington and New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Haigler is one of six regional finalists for Louisiana High School
Student of the Year who were selected based on academic achievement, leadership skills,
character, and service to their communities; and
WHEREAS, the student of the year winners in the categories of high school, eighth
grade, and fifth grade will be honored at the Louisiana State Museum in Baton Rouge in an
annual ceremony conducted by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education on
April 16, 2014, and it is fitting to commend Lauren Catherine Haigler upon being named a
finalist for the 2014 Louisiana High School Student of the Year award. ENROLLEDHR NO. 107

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Lauren Haigler upon being named a finalist
for the 2014 Louisiana High School Student of the Year award; does hereby congratulate
Ms. Haigler for her exceptional academic achievements and community service; and does
hereby extend best wishes for a productive future in whatever career Ms. Haigler pursues.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Lauren Catherine Haigler, her parents, John and Theresa Haigler, Airline High School,
and the Bossier Parish School Board.
