ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 134 BY REPRESENTATIVE PRICE A RESOLUTION To commend the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Donaldsonville High School for their service to the community. WHEREAS, the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program was originally created as part of the National Defense Act of 1916 to build teen leadership; and WHEREAS, JROTC is designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline; the program's focus is reflected in its mission statement, "To motivate young people to be better citizens"; and WHEREAS, the Donaldsonville High School's Air Force JROTC program achieved ingraining JROTC's values in their students as evidenced by the community-service projects the program supports; and WHEREAS, the Donaldsonville High's JROTC program honored area veterans in a celebration of Veteran's Day by presenting a program and lunch in thanks for the veterans' service to this country; honored veterans at the New Orleans Hornets' "Military Appreciation Night" by participating in presenting the American flag as an opportunity to pay tribute to the flag and our veterans; and WHEREAS, the Donaldsonville High's JROTC program also hosts an annual First Responder's Luncheon to honor the men and women who keep us safe at home and participates in distributing food at the Lemann Memorial Donaldsonville Community Center; and WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Donaldsonville High's JROTC program could not have been achieved without the guidance and skills of Major John Fleming and Sergeant Rob Oates, the program's instructors. ENROLLEDHR NO. 134 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Donaldsonville High School for their extraordinary achievements and service to the community and does hereby extend best wishes to the cadets, instructors, and everyone involved with this fine program as they celebrate their memorable accomplishments and prepare for continued success in the future. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Major John Fleming on behalf of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Donaldsonville High School.
