HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 143
BY REPRESENTATIVES STUART BISHOP, BARRAS, NANCY LANDRY, TERRY
LANDRY, MONTOUCET, ORTEGO, PI ERRE, AND ROBIDEAUX
A RESOLUTION
To commend the St. Thomas More High School softball team upon winning the Class 4A
state championship title and to congratulate the Lady Cougars on an outstanding
2014 season.
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars of St. Thomas More captured the Class 4A title in an
11-5 victory over Vandebilt Catholic High School at the Louisiana High School Athletic
Association-State Farm Fast Pitch 56 Softball Tournament, their second consecutive 4A state
championship in softball; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars softball team finished the 2013-14 season with a 24-5
record; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Andria Waguespack prepared the Lady Cougars by
instilling in the team the confidence and skills that are needed for continued success in the
future in leading the Lady Cougars to their eighth state softball championship and fourth
under her tutelage; and
WHEREAS, the St. Thomas More Lady Cougars won their eighteenth district
championship in a row in 2014, continuing their legacy of excellence; and
WHEREAS, all members of the St. Thomas More softball team merit recognition for
their outstanding performance; it is appropriate to commend the title game Most Outstanding
Player Whitney Romero, a sophomore, for allowing one earned run and striking out five as
the winning pitcher in the title game, while also going 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles
and three RBIs at the plate, while sophomore Bailey Hemphill and senior Allison Derise
each contributed two doubles and two RBIs; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 143

WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars play "Janie's Inning" at every home game and many
away games, allowing Team Manager Janie Girouard, who has Down's syndrome, to
actively participate as a player, bringing national recognition to their school; and
WHEREAS, the St. Thomas More Lady Cougars exhibit the highest ideals of
sportsmanship, bringing a commanding sense of honor and immense pride to their school,
community, and the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the members of the St.
Thomas More High School softball team and Head Coach Andria Waguespack for winning
the Class 4A state title at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association-State Farm Fast
Pitch 56 Softball Tournament, and for completing a successful 2014 season through such
dedicated performance, which brings honor to their school, community, and the state of
Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Head Coach Andria Waguespack.
