HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 160
BY REPRESENTATIVE HENSGENS
CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Mickey Frith, former state
representative
A RESOLUTION1
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Joseph2
"Mickey" Lloyd Frith, and to express enduring gratitude for his outstanding3
contributions to the state of Louisiana, particularly during his tenure as a4
distinguished member of the Louisiana House of Representatives.5
WHEREAS, Joseph "Mickey" Lloyd Frith was born on October 20, 1942, to Lloyd6
Frith, Sr., and the former Gelta Trahan; and 7
WHEREAS, Mr. Frith was a 1960 graduate of Ernest Broussard High School,8
received a bachelor of arts degree in education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette,9
and received a master of education degree from McNeese State University; and10
WHEREAS, Mr. Frith's career included serving as a schoolteacher and assistant11
principal at E. Broussard High School from 1964 to 1988, and serving as principal of12
Maltrait Memorial Catholic School from 1988 to 1990; and13
WHEREAS, Mr. Frith was also a restauranteur, opening several restaurants in his14
community; and15
WHEREAS, an active member of his community, Mr. Frith served as a 4-H club16
leader for twenty-five years, a Boy Scout leader, and a volunteer coach of the Vermilion17
Parish football league, Kaplan Minor League, Little League, and Babe Ruth League; and18
WHEREAS, Mr. Frith devoted years of his life to the citizens of Cameron Parish and19
Vermilion Parish by serving as the representative of District 47 in the Louisiana House of20
Representatives where he served from 1996 to 2008; and 21 HLS 14RS-5592	ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, Mr. Frith served as a proud member of the Democratic Caucus,1
chairman of the Acadiana Delegation, vice chairman of the Rural Caucus, a member of the2
House committees on agriculture, forestry, aquaculture and rural development, commerce,3
and natural resources, the House Special Committee on Coastal Restoration and Flood4
Control, the Steering Subcommittee of the House Special Committee on Disaster Planning,5
and the House Special Committee on Disaster Planning, Crisis Management, Recovery and6
Long-Term Revitalization; and 7
WHEREAS, during his time in the House of Representatives, Representative Frith8
has worked on and supported many important pieces of legislation, focusing primarily on9
rural issues; and10
WHEREAS, Representative Frith's professional, civic, and business affiliations have11
included the Kaplan Chamber of Commerce, the Louisiana Association of Educators, the12
National Education Association, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Vermilion13
Parish Farm Bureau, the Louisiana Cattlemen's Association, the Teen Pregnancy Task Force,14
and the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana; and15
WHEREAS, Mr. Frith is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-two years, Millie16
Gaspard Frith; three sons, Brent Frith and wife, Arieal, Clint Frith and wife, Trisha, and17
Trent Frith and wife, Katie; one sister, Diana "Dee" and husband, Albert; and eight18
grandchildren, Blake, Cory, Scott, Hunter, Averi, Katie, Kelli, and Karli; and19
WHEREAS, Mr. Frith will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father,20
grandfather, friend, and public servant who loved his community and treasured his family;21
and22
WHEREAS, the death of Joseph "Mickey" Lloyd Frith has left a great void and23
created a general sense of sorrow in all who knew him, including the members of his24
legislative family.25
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the26
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the27
death of former state representative Joseph "Mickey" Lloyd Frith and does hereby record for28
posterity the enduring appreciation of the citizens of Louisiana for his outstanding29 HLS 14RS-5592	ORIGINAL

contributions and achievements, particularly during his tenure as a distinguished member1
of the Louisiana House of Representatives.2
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted3
to the family of Joseph "Mickey" Lloyd Frith.4
