ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 17 BY REPRESENTATIVE BURRELL A RESOLUTION To commend Dr. Paul Sisson on his years of service to Louisiana State University in Shreveport (LSUS) as interim chancellor. WHEREAS, Dr. Paul Sisson became the interim chancellor at LSUS during the Summer of 2012; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson received a bachelor of science in mathematics and physics from the New Mexico Institute of Technology and a doctor of philosophy in mathematics from the University of South Carolina; and WHEREAS, after receiving his doctorate, Dr. Sisson worked for LSUS as a professor of mathematics, chair of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department, dean of the College of Sciences, and provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson's numerous administrative accomplishments as interim chancellor have contributed in many ways to the betterment of LSUS; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson supervised the successful conclusion of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) fifth-year review process and initiated campus- wide preparation for the 2015 SACS decennial reaffirmation; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson directed the development of the first doctoral-level degree program at LSUS, and supervised the development and submission of the corresponding SACS level-change request; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson directed a campus-wide contractual collaboration with Academic Partnerships, resulting in a redesign and relaunch of the LSUS master of education in curriculum and instruction and subsequent quadrupling of the program's enrollment; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 17 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson supervised the development of an alternative calendar structure that provides students greater flexibility in course scheduling and the opportunity for faster degree completion; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson directed the development of the LSUS Commitment Plan, a comprehensive coordination of administration, faculty, and staff from Louisiana State University (LSU) and LSUS that allows students at LSUS to earn LSU degrees entirely or almost entirely on the LSUS campus; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson developed a partnership with the Bossier Parish Community College that allows students who do not yet meet LSUS admission criteria to take classes on the LSUS campus and participate in student life activities; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson initiated a comprehensive social media campaign and implemented a text messaging service that alerts students to critical deadlines, student services and activities, and academic progress issues. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Dr. Paul Sisson for his years of service as interim chancellor of Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
