HLS 14RS-5787 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 178 BY REPRESENTATIVE JAMES CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Lydia Marie Taylor of Baton Rouge A RESOLUTION1 To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Lydia Marie2 Taylor.3 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Louisiana House of4 Representatives has learned of the death of Lydia Marie Taylor, of Baton Rouge; and5 WHEREAS, Lydia Marie Taylor was born on April 19, 1953, to the union of Samuel6 E. Taylor and Thelma Kinchen Berry in New Orleans; and7 WHEREAS, Lydia accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at First8 Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, where she remained a faithful and9 devoted member throughout her life; and10 WHEREAS, Lydia graduated from McKinley High School in 1971 and from11 Southern University in 1975 with a degree in social work; while at Southern, Lydia was12 initiated into the Alpha Tau Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Fraternity, Inc.; and13 WHEREAS, Lydia retried from Operation Hope, Inc., in 2008, after thirty-two years14 of unwavering service; and15 WHEREAS, throughout her life, McKinley High, Southern University, and Delta16 Sigma Theta remained close to Lydia's heart; and17 WHEREAS, Lydia is preceded in death by her father; one sister, Alma Jean Hunter;18 and one brother, Dale Taylor; and19 WHEREAS, Lydia leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving mother,20 Thelma Berry; one daughter, Samantha; one very special great-nephew whom she loved and21 HLS 14RS-5787 ORIGINAL HR NO. 178 Page 2 of 3 embraced as her own son, Jalen Hunter; two aunts, Delores Matthews and husband Earl and1 Martha Roberson and husband David; one uncle, Leonard Kinchen; one sister, Liz and2 husband Albert; one brother, Chris and wife Debra; nieces and nephews, Derrick Hunter,3 Nicola Carter, Christopher Taylor, Jr., Amanda Taylor, and Chadwick Chapman; a deeply4 devoted and loving friend, Debra Rosenthal; her faithful friend who was always at her side,5 Maximus; and a host of other relatives and friends; and6 WHEREAS, Lydia was a woman whose generosity and loving heart have left an7 indelible mark on the many people whose lives she touched, and she deserves posthumous8 gratitude for the joy and light that she brought to her family, her church, and her community;9 and10 WHEREAS, with the death of Lydia Jackson Martin, Louisiana has truly lost of one11 her finest citizens, a tremendous God-fearing woman of great strength, faith, and integrity,12 and though her death has created a tremendous void in her community, she will forever13 remain an inspiration in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved her; and14 WHEREAS, Lydia was a charitable and humble servant of the Lord and she lived her15 life in accordance with her beliefs and she leaves a lifetime of good works, kindness and16 generosity toward others, and service and dedication to Christ, that will forever speak for17 Lydia Marie Taylor.18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the19 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the20 death of Lydia Marie Taylor; does hereby recognize her outstanding achievements and21 singular contributions; does hereby record for posterity her extraordinary gifts and talents;22 and does hereby extend appreciation for her enduring legacy that will continue to be a source23 of great pride and honor for her family and friends, her community, and the state of24 Louisiana.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted26 to the family of Lydia Marie Taylor.27 HLS 14RS-5787 ORIGINAL HR NO. 178 Page 3 of 3 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
