ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 178 BY REPRESENTATIVE JAMES A RESOLUTION To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Lydia Marie Taylor. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Louisiana House of Representatives has learned of the death of Lydia Marie Taylor, of Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, Lydia Marie Taylor was born on April 19, 1953, to the union of Samuel E. Taylor and Thelma Kinchen Berry in New Orleans; and WHEREAS, Lydia accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at First Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, where she remained a faithful and devoted member throughout her life; and WHEREAS, Lydia graduated from McKinley High School in 1971 and from Southern University in 1975 with a degree in social work; while at Southern, Lydia was initiated into the Alpha Tau Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; and WHEREAS, Lydia retired from Operation Hope, Inc., in 2008, after thirty-two years of unwavering service; and WHEREAS, throughout her life, McKinley High, Southern University, and Delta Sigma Theta remained close to Lydia's heart; and WHEREAS, Lydia is preceded in death by her father; one sister, Alma Jean Hunter; and one brother, Dale Taylor; and WHEREAS, Lydia leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving mother, Thelma Berry; one daughter, Samantha; one very special great-nephew whom she loved and embraced as her own son, Jalen Hunter; two aunts, Delores Matthews and husband Earl and Martha Roberson and husband David; one uncle, Leonard Kinchen; one sister, Liz and husband Albert; one brother, Chris and wife Debra; nieces and nephews, Derrick Hunter, Nicola Carter, Christopher Taylor, Jr., Amanda Taylor, and Chadwick Chapman; a deeply ENROLLEDHR NO. 178 Page 2 of 2 devoted and loving friend, Debra Rosenthal; her faithful friend who was always at her side, Maximus; and a host of other relatives and friends; and WHEREAS, Lydia was a woman whose generosity and loving heart have left an indelible mark on the many people whose lives she touched, and she deserves posthumous gratitude for the joy and light that she brought to her family, her church, and her community; and WHEREAS, with the death of Lydia Jackson Martin, Louisiana has truly lost of one her finest citizens, a tremendous God-fearing woman of great strength, faith, and integrity, and though her death has created a tremendous void in her community, she will forever remain an inspiration in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved her; and WHEREAS, Lydia was a charitable and humble servant of the Lord and she lived her life in accordance with her beliefs and she leaves a lifetime of good works, kindness and generosity toward others, and service and dedication to Christ, that will forever speak for Lydia Marie Taylor. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Lydia Marie Taylor; does hereby recognize her outstanding achievements and singular contributions; does hereby record for posterity her extraordinary gifts and talents; and does hereby extend appreciation for her enduring legacy that will continue to be a source of great pride and honor for her family and friends, her community, and the state of Louisiana.
