HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 190

COMMENDATIONS: Commends Lionel Washington upon his induction into the
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Lionel Washington upon his induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.2
WHEREAS, Lionel Washington, a native of Lutcher, was a standout cornerback at3
Tulane University from 1979 through 1982; and4
WHEREAS, after being selected in the fourth round of the 1983 National Football5
League draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, he went on to a highly productive fifteen-year NFL6
career with the Cardinals, the Los Angeles and Oakland Raiders, and the Denver Broncos;7
and8
WHEREAS, Washington played in two hundred four NFL games, one hundred sixty-9
five of those as a starter; and10
WHEREAS, over the course of his NFL career, he intercepted thirty-seven passes,11
returning four for touchdowns, and had a career-best eight interceptions as a rookie in 1983;12
and13
WHEREAS, Washington picked off at least three passes in a season five times in his14
career, and had at least one interception in thirteen of his fifteen professional seasons; and15
WHEREAS, after retiring as a player and beginning a coaching career in the NFL16
with the Green Bay Packers, he accepted the position of co-defensive coordinator with his17
alma mater, Tulane; and18
WHEREAS, he recently concluded his second season on the Tulane coaching staff19
by helping the Green Wave to a berth in the 2013 New Orleans Bowl; and20 HLS 14RS-4914 ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, Lionel Washington was nominated for and has been selected as a1
member of the 2014 inductee class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.2
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the3
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Lionel Washington, former Tulane4
University standout and veteran of fifteen seasons as an NFL cornerback, upon his induction5
into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.6
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted7
to Lionel Washington.8
