ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 190 BY REPRESENTATIVE COX A RESOLUTION To commend Lionel Washington upon his induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, Lionel Washington, a native of Lutcher, was a standout cornerback at Tulane University from 1979 through 1982; and WHEREAS, after being selected in the fourth round of the 1983 National Football League draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, he went on to a highly productive fifteen-year NFL career with the Cardinals, the Los Angeles and Oakland Raiders, and the Denver Broncos; and WHEREAS, Washington played in two hundred four NFL games, one hundred sixty- five of those as a starter; and WHEREAS, over the course of his NFL career, he intercepted thirty-seven passes, returning four for touchdowns, and had a career-best eight interceptions as a rookie in 1983; and WHEREAS, Washington picked off at least three passes in a season five times in his career, and had at least one interception in thirteen of his fifteen professional seasons; and WHEREAS, after retiring as a player and beginning a coaching career in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, he accepted the position of co-defensive coordinator with his alma mater, Tulane; and WHEREAS, he recently concluded his second season on the Tulane coaching staff by helping the Green Wave to a berth in the 2013 New Orleans Bowl; and WHEREAS, Lionel Washington was nominated for and has been selected as a member of the 2014 inductee class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Lionel Washington, former Tulane ENROLLEDHR NO. 190 Page 2 of 2 University standout and veteran of fifteen seasons as an NFL cornerback, upon his induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
