HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 196
BY REPRESENTATIVE JEFFERSON
A RESOLUTION1
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of David Brown,2
of Homer.3
WHEREAS, the providence of God graced the Earth with the birth of David Brown4
on August 13, 1910, the fourth of nine children from the blessed union of Archelaus and5
Maggie Bell Brown; and6
WHEREAS, at an early age, David Brown professed his faith in Christ at Antioch7
Baptist Church, and his work in the Lord's vineyard was through the music ministry; he sang8
tenor with the Brown Family Singers for much of his life; and9
WHEREAS, in 1936, Mr. Brown married Beatrice Turner, who preceded him in10
death after forty-eight years of marriage; to their union was born a daughter, Arletha Brown11
McClain; and12
WHEREAS, the agricultural fields of his property provided a livelihood in farming13
for Mr. Brown for more than fifty years and supplied sustenance for his family; he found14
pride and joy in caring for his home, family, and animals on his own land over the years; and15
WHEREAS, on May 23, 2014, after spending one hundred three years on this plane,16
the eternal spirit of David Brown was carried aloft to his permanent residence in Heaven;17
left to mourn his passing are his daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family,18
and friends; and19
WHEREAS, it is a rare occasion for one to live such a long life, and it is therefore20
appropriate to pay homage to the fullness and longevity of the life of David Brown.21 ENROLLEDHR NO. 196

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the1
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere condolences upon the death of David2
Brown of Homer; does hereby extend deepest sympathies to the family and friends of3
Mr. Brown; and does hereby share in prayers for peace and comfort during this time of4
sorrow.5
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted6
to Ms. Arletha Brown McClain.7
